Yes, the standard IMDb app is completely free to download and use on iOS and Android devices. Whether you want to check a movie’s rating, look up a familiar actor’s filmography, or build a watchlist for weekend streaming, you can do it all without spending a dime.
However, like many digital platforms, IMDb operates on a freemium model. While the everyday consumer experience is free, there is a professional tier that comes with a price tag.
What You Get for Free on the IMDb App
For movie buffs, casual viewers, and trivia lovers, the free version of the IMDb app provides a massive trove of entertainment data. Creating a free account unlocks several features:
- Comprehensive Databases: Access millions of movies, TV shows, episodes, and celebrity profiles.
- Ratings and Reviews: Check what critics and audiences think, or leave your own reviews.
- Trailers and Clips: Stream official trailers, behind-the-scenes clips, and exclusive interviews.
- Watchlists: Save titles you want to watch later and organize them across your devices.
- Showtimes and Streaming Guides: Find out where a specific title is streaming or playing in local theaters.
Note: The free app and website are supported by advertisements, which is how IMDb keeps the service free for regular users.
